Cooperation

The Commission and the Scientific Committee cooperate with intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations for mutual benefit. 

Non-Contracting Parties

Each year non-Contracting Parties possibly involved in the landing and/or trade of toothfish are invited to cooperate with CCAMLR through voluntarily implementing the Catch Documentation Scheme (CDS).

Non-Contracting Parties with limited CDS access:

  • Singapore (2018) has been granted ongoing limited access to CCAMLR's eCDS to verify export documents and issue re-export documents.
  • Mexico (2021) has been granted limited access to CCAMLR's eCDS to verify export documents and issue re-export documents.
  • The Kingdom of Thailand (2023) has been granted limited access to CCAMLR's eCDS to verify export documents and issue re-export documents.
  • Republic of Colombia (2023) has been granted limited access to CCAMLR's eCDS to verify export documents and issue re-export documents.

Organisations

CCAMLR cooperates with a large number of international organisations. Formal cooperation is recognised in Article XXIII of the Convention with the following organisations: 

  • The Antarctic Treaty Consultative Parties, the Food and Agriculture Organisation and other specialised agencies of the United Nations, the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research, the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research and the International Whaling Commission

The Commission and the Scientific Committee cooperate with the following intergovernmental and non-governmental organisations, including through participation, as observers, in each others' meetings (MOUs and Arrangements are available in English only):

Requests for observer status at CCAMLR meetings should be addressed to the Executive Secretary.

Other collaboration

CCAMLR and the government of Peru have signed an MoU to improve cooperation on scientific research (MoU Peru).

CCAMLR also supports a number of global partnerships, including the Regional Fishery Body Secretariats’ Network (RSN), the Coordinating Working Party on Fisheries Statistics (CWP), the Fishery Resources Monitoring System (FIRMS), UNEP Regional Seas Program and the SCAR-Marine Biodiversity Information Network (SCAR-MarBIN).

CCAMLR receives a grant from the European Union (CCAMLRsupport2024) to improve cooperative actions against IUU fishing including through collaboration with INTERPOL and the IMCS Network’s Joint Analytical Cell, improvement in Secretariat data systems and access to documents.
