The Convention Area

The northern boundary of the Convention area is a line roughly following the oceanographic boundary called the Antarctic Convergence. The southern boundary of the Convention area is the coastline of the Antarctic continent. The Convention applies to all marine living resources from this area. 

The Convention Area is defined fully in Article 1 of the Convention on the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources  

The Convention Area represents around ten percent of the Earth’s oceans and has a surface area of 35 716 100 km2
